Trumpeter Marcus Printup’s first musical experiences were hearing the fiery gospel music his parents sang in church. He met his mentor, the great pianist Marcus Roberts who introduced him to Wynton Marsalis, which led to Printup’s induction into the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in 1993. Printup has recorded with Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Eric Reed, Madeline Peyroux, Ted Nash, Cyrus Chestnut, Wycliffe Gordon, and Roberts.

Marcus Printup appears thanks to a residency made possible by the Robinson Family Fund, established by Ward Robinson (’19 PBC Jazz, ’10 MPH) and Pamela Pittman, which is bringing jazz luminaries to UNCG’s School of Music this year for residencies with students and concerts which will be open to the public.
