Creative Aging Gallery Hallway Open House
March 8, 2023 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
The Creative Aging Network- NC and UNCG’s Gerontology Program announce the opening of the Creative Aging Gallery Hallway, a rotating exhibit featuring art by mature artists or art that features themes related to aging. An open house will be held on March 8 from 4:30pm-6 pm on UNCG’s campus at 524 Highland Ave (Ferguson Building, 2nd Floor) in Greensboro.
The Creative Aging Gallery Hallway was organized by Dr. Elise Eifert, Gerontology Graduate Coordinator, and curated by Lia Miller, the director of the Creative Aging Network-NC. Lia selected Jean Musòn to be the first artist to display her work. Jean is a Jamaican native and Greensboro resident with a studio at Creative Aging Network-NC. Growing up in the Caribbean climate where bright colors are a part of everyday life influences her style of painting. She expresses ideas and feelings in detailed paintings that depict vistas of her native Jamaica as well as numerous images of horses. “I think my feelings come out through horses,” she said. Jean’s work will be on display for the next four months.
The creative arts give older adults a platform to share their voice and pass their legacy to the next generation. The arts play a vital role in helping them stay engaged in their communities socially, civically, and psychologically. According to Dr. Gene D. Cohen participation in activities that foster creative engagement and skills mastery in a social environment has positive psychological, physical and emotional health benefits for older adults.
