Research
Dr. Girma’s research interests include global migration, trans-national adoption, race and ethnicity, intersectional identities and African diasporic populations. She is a co-founder and co-director of the Ethiopian, East African, and Indian Ocean Research Network. Her research has been published in a number of journals including Ethnic and Racial Studies, International Journal of Ethiopian Studies, Journal of Black Studies, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Sociology Compass and Social Problems. She is the co-editor of two books: “Naming Africans: On the Epistemic Value of Names” (Palgrave, 2023) and “The Global Ethiopian Diaspora: Migrations, Connections and Belongings” (University of Rochester Press, 2024).
