Biography
Gerardo (Gerry) Lopez (he/him/his) is Assistant Professor of Music Theory at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His current research focuses on the depiction and perception of robot-like voices across various musical contexts, through an interdisciplinary approach that blends music theory and music psychology.
In addition to his research, Gerry also enjoys giving back to his communities. He has previously been involved with the graduate student-led Project Spectrum and the Society for Music Perception and Cognition’s Anti-Racism and Equity Committee. Currently, Gerry is serving on the Society for Music Theory’s Professional Development Committee.
Gerry earned a Ph.D. in Music Theory from The Ohio State University and a M.M. in Music Theory from Michigan State University. He also earned a M.M. and B.M. in Flute Performance from the University of Redlands, as well as an A.A. in Music from Pasadena City College.
