Licensure in School Library Media Supervisor

The Licensure in School Library Media Supervisor (078) is designed for students who need to be licensed as a director of media services within a school system. This licensure is an add-on that is available to students who are eligible to hold the Media Coordinator (076) licensure with the additional requirements of nine graduate semester hours of credit in administration, curriculum development, or supervision and three years of acceptable experience as a school librarian.

The school library director/supervisor is a system-level school library professional who may be identified as Director of Library Media Services, Director of Media and Technology, Coordinator of Library Media Services, District LIbrary Media Coordinator or Library Supervisor. Competencies are required in the areas of administration, supervision/management, and curriculum development for this certification area.

The Student Experience

After Graduation

The 078 School Library Supervisor licensure program emphasizes the rapidly changing library and information field and prepares students for positions of leadership in school districts and other information centers. The school library director/supervisor is a system-level school library professional who may be identified as Director of Library Media Services, Director of Media and Technology, District Coordinator of Library Media Services, or Library Supervisor.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All LIS licensure candidates are required to:

• Have an M.L.I.S./M.L.S.
• Have 3 years of experience as a school based librarian by the end of the course work.
• Hold a 076 license as a SLMC (School Library Media Coordinator).
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Archive all course assignments required as evidence for accreditation and post them to your final portfolio by the last semester of the program.
• Score 3 or above on all teaching dispositions.
• A Specialty Area Praxis exam is required (5412 – Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision) with a passing score of 146.
