The Kinesiology Sports Medicine and Movement Science (SMMS) concentration is designed for students pursuing careers in allied health professions, including athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician’s assistant, physician, chiropractic medicine, and pharmaceutical medicine. The concentration’s curriculum also prepares students for master’s and doctoral graduate programs in areas related to neuromechanics and biomechanics. Such terminal degree programs prepare students to teach and research at the collegiate level.
Program Distinctions
- Students have the opportunity to complete the key prerequisites for allied health graduate programs, such as athletic training, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.
- Students have access to instruction from exceptional faculty, including leaders in athletic training and core faculty in UNCG’s Master’s in Athletic Training program.
The Student Experience
- Students take 14 hours of concentration-specific coursework, including courses on Detection and Correction of Pathological Movement Patterns, Foundational Skills in Sports Medicine, and General Physics.
- Students will have the opportunity to complete coursework that positions them as strong candidates for allied health graduate programs and medical programs.
