UNC Greensboro’s Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies (CARS) program prepares students for the broad scope of the industry and produces graduates who understand designing, manufacturing, marketing, and apparel-related products. Students who aim to design clothing for a living may consider concentrating on Apparel Design, which will teach them how to combine creativity with business savvy and evolve their design work over the course of a career.

Program Distinctions

  • Our Bachelor of Science in Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies program is accredited by the Textile and Apparel Program Accreditation Commission of the International Textile and Apparel Association.
  • Our students have a high rate of placement in the field — many even before graduation.

The Student Experience

  • Students participate in studio classes, hands-on projects, and internships with leading apparel and retail companies.
  • Close connections with industry leaders, including an advisory board of senior-level executives from a wide range of consumer, apparel, and retail related companies, keep our curriculum innovative and relevant.
  • Internships from North Carolina to New York and beyond allow you to work for the brands that inspire you such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Saks, Inc., Belk Stores, JCPenney, and VF Corporation (The North Face, Wrangler, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica).
  • There are a variety of student clubs available, such as Alpha Kappa Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma, National Millennial Community, North Carolina Sales Institute, Spartan Investment Club, and THREADS.

After Graduation

Potential career paths include buyer, department manager, fashion buyer, fashion consultant, fashion coordinator, fashion designer, product developer, sourcing specialist, and technical designer. Graduates of the program work in a variety of positions, including:
