The part-time, online P.B.C. in Community-Engaged School Leadership program is intended for stakeholders both inside and outside of K-12 schools who endeavor to contribute to and enhance the lives of youth and communities, especially those that are situated in challenging socioeconomic contexts

The Student Experience

The P.B.C. in Community Engaged School Leadership is designed to immerse students in knowledge and skills related to equity-centered ways that communities and K-12 educational institutions can, should, and do engage collaboratively. It is intended to help support the development of future leaders who can help build strong, beneficial ties between K-12 schools and communities. Research has consistently shown that schools need strong community support in order to succeed and thrive.

Students will take 12 total credits across four courses. Required courses include ELC 731 – Power, Politics, and Schools and ELC 716 – Culturally Responsive School Leadership. Students will choose two electives from courses such as: ELC 683 – Engaging the Public in Education; ELC 694 – Cultural and Political Dimensions of Schooling; ELC 700 – Critical Perspectives in Education, Leadership, and Culture; ELC 712 – Teaching Social Justice; ELC 713 – Passionate Pedagogies; ELC 716 – Culturally Responsive Leadership; and ELC 730 – Democracy in Education.

After Graduation

Graduates of this program will leave with a better understanding of how to best work with and serve children and their families.
