The Add-On Licensure in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program offers professional preparation and training in the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students to persons already possessing a North Carolina teaching license in another area and who have at least two years of teaching experience. The program will lead to North Carolina License in Deaf and Hard of Hearing K-12.

- National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
- N.C. Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI)
The Student Experience
Students will take the following classes to earn this add-on license:
Required
- SES 378 – Language Teaching Methods with Deaf Students
- SES 381 – Bilingual Methods for Teaching Deaf Students
- SES 438 – Literacy Methods with Deaf Learners
- SES 483 – Instructional Methods: Students with Hearing Loss
Select one of the following
- SES 385 – Structure of English & ASL
- SES 481 – Instructional ASL for Educating Deaf Students
Select one of the following
- SES 451 – Spoken Language Facilitation in Deaf Children
- SES 463 – Visual English Systems
After Graduation
Successful completion of this program will allow students to be better prepared to work with Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
