UNCG Transition from Zoom to Teams for Spring 2024

Close up on hands using the Zoom app on a phone.

Dear Members of the UNCG Community,

As announced on October 16, 2023, UNCG will discontinue support for the current Zoom service on December 31, 2023. This change includes the termination of the Canvas Zoom integration, the use of UNCG credentials in the free version of Zoom, and the conclusion of ITS support for Zoom. Starting in Spring 2024, all courses will be required to use Microsoft Teams for virtual class sessions and meetings.

After December 31, 2023, Zoom will no longer be included in the University’s list of pre-approved software. Consequently, departments will be unable to utilize University funds to purchase Zoom licenses for their area’s use. If you have any Zoom recordings that have not been saved and wish to keep them, please download them to your computer or save them to Panopto before December 31, 2023.

We welcome faculty and staff to take advantage of fifteen-minute one-on-one consultations with our knowledgeable technology consultants. These personalized sessions provide a hands-on opportunity to familiarize yourself with Microsoft Teams, including tasks like muting and unmuting participants, managing raised hands, screen sharing, enabling others to share content, and adjusting settings during class sessions and meetings. During these consultations, we encourage you to ask any additional questions you may have. Our dedicated team is here to provide you with the support and guidance you need.

Our team has curated some on-demand training in LinkedIn Learning for Microsoft Teams that we believe will be useful:

Finally, the Teaching with Teams website will stay current with emerging issues, evolving interests, and specific tool requests.

Please avail yourself for the training opportunities. We are fully committed to your success in adapting to this new platform, providing assistance every step of the way.

Thank you,
Debbie Storrs, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
Robert J. Shea, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
Tina McEntire, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management
Donna R. Heath, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services
