Spartans Head to Asheville for the SoCon Tournament

Men’s and women’s basketball enter the 2024 Ingles SoCon Basketball Championships both as the No. 2 seeds. They gear up to represent UNC Greensboro this week in at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville.

The women’s basketball team, led by Head Coach Trina Patterson, hit the court on Thursday, March 7 taking down No. 7 Furman 64-44 to sweep the Paladins 3-0 for the season. The Spartans advance to a SoCon Tournament semifinal game on Friday against the winner of No. 3 Wofford and No. 6 Samford at 1:15 p.m. EST. The games will air on ESPN+.

The team closed out the 2023-24 regular season with a 61-54 victory against Western Carolina. Head Coach Trina Patterson earned her 300th career win with the team’s February 17 victory against Mercer.

In the men’s basketball lineup, Head Coach Mike Jones and the team will have a quarterfinal match-up on Saturday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m. They will play the winner of the game between No. 7 ETSU and No. 10 VMI, to be aired on ESPN+ and Nexstar affiliates.

The Spartans beat VMI twice in the regular season and split their games against ETSU. They reached the century mark and defeated VMI 100-58 in their February 28 face-off at home. Men’s basketball turned in their second straight 20-win season at 21-10 overall.
