The 54th anniversary of Earth Day is right around the corner and this year Spartans have a lot to celebrate! UNCG’s Office of Sustainability is hosting and partnering with other units on a variety of in-person and virtual events throughout the month of April.
Solar 101: The Basics & Benefits of Going Solar

The Office of Sustainability is now collaborating with EnergySage to help UNCG employees, alumni, and community members compare offers for rooftop solar installations for their homes and businesses. North Carolina is consistently in the top ten states in the nation for total Megawatts of solar capacity, number of solar industry jobs, and the number of homes with solar. EnergySage is a free, 100% online comparison-shopping marketplace that connects you with vetted local installers.
EnergySage provides resources for speaking with vendors and understanding contracts and financing options, including state and federal tax incentives. Advisors will be presenting an introductory Solar 101 overview. Come demystify solar and learn about advancements in technology, financing, current industry trends, and more from these industry experts.

The Bryan School Climate Committee, UNCG International Programs, and the UNCG chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization invite you to join them on Thursday, April 18 for lunch with Dr. Muriel Fadairo, Professor of Management Science at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, where she serves as the director of the doctoral school in human and social sciences, encompassing business and law. Her research focuses on franchising, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable business models. Dr. Muriel Fadairo will give an additional talk on Friday, April 18.

This discussion will primarily focus on the potential financial challenges encountered by families aiming to conserve lands in North Carolina, specifically in preserving their farms and forests across generations. These challenges encompass the effects of high taxes related to land retention. Addressing such challenges requires meticulous planning and the exploration of diverse strategies.

To celebrate Arbor Day and UNCG’s Tree Campus USA designation, we’ll be joined by Dr. Paul Knapp, Professor in Geography, Environment, and Sustainability and director of the Carolina Tree-Ring Science Laboratory. We’ll start with a tree planting on College Ave. and then Dr. Knapp will lead us on a walking tour to identify and discuss the old growth trees on campus.
