Board of Trustees Vice Chair Mae Douglas ’73 will be honored for her advocacy for racial and social justice throughout her career. She’s one of this year’s Brotherhood/Sisterhood Citation Award honorees by the North Carolina for Community and Justice of the Triad (NCCJ).

She will be honored at the Citation Award Dinner on Wednesday, November 8 at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro. The dinner is in-person and will be streamed virtually.

Douglas earned her bachelor of arts in sociology from UNCG and went on to become executive vice president and chief people officer of Cox Communications. She’s serving her second term with UNCG’s Board of Trustees. She also serves on the Academic Affairs and Executive Committees and chairs the Nominating and Grievance Committees.

NCCJ highlighted her volunteer work, mentorship, and her advocacy for equity and accessibility within the areas of education, health care, and business development. She’s on the Board of Directors for Cone Health, the Cone Health Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. She helped establish the Black Investments in Greensboro (BIG) Equity Fund to support local Black communities.

Douglas has been recognized many times for her philanthropic work, including by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2022 and the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce. Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. has previously described her as an “outstanding role model for UNCG students and young people community-wide.”
