Health disparities among asthmatic children
Health disparities among vulnerable populations
My area of research is the exploration of disparities in the care of asthmatic children since enactment of the Affordable Care Act. In cross-sectional secondary analysis, my dissertation investigates the predictors of the likelihood of receiving appropriate treatment for pediatric asthma exacerbation in the emergency department. The modifying effects of race and ethnicity may indicate the presence of institutional discrimination affecting treatment guideline compliance. Findings will be interpreted through the lens of social justice, and will lead to suggestions for ACA policy amendments and provider training to improve health equity for asthmatic children. Other areas of research include a study of vaccine hesitancy and school immunization policy change during a measles outbreak among a structured religious community, as well as a review of international policies to reduce pandemic intensified violence against women. I will be presenting group research at the Sigma conference in Scotland on gender representation in randomly controlled cardiovascular research. My areas of expertise include school health and health disparities of vulnerable populations.
