Dr. Pickett has expertise in the use of quantitative methodologies for psychosocial measures. Her work has been funded by Sigma Theta Tau International and University of North Carolina Greensboro Faculty Grants.

Dr. Pickett’s program of research focuses on reduction of hypertension related risk factors among African Americans with a specific interest in psychosocial factors that influence weight management such as weight beliefs, chronic stress, depression, and eating behavior patterns. She is currently a co-investigator for an internal grant that examines sleep deficiencies and body weight in young Black adults. The overarching goal of her research is to develop interventions that will help to eliminate cardiovascular health disparities among African Americans and other vulnerable populations.
