Workplace Wellness, P.B.C.

The post-baccalaureate certificate in Workplace Wellness at UNC Greensboro prepares individuals to work with employers, employees, policy-makers, or brokers/consultants to improve the safety, health, and well-being of employees. Students learn valuable skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate workplace wellbeing and safety initiatives from professionals in the field.

Graduates are qualified for employment in health systems, private companies, city and county governments, universities, and workplace wellness consulting companies. This certificate enhances qualifications for expanded job options among students with degrees in health education, exercise science, nutrition, nursing, gerontology, interior architecture, community recreation, and business administration.

Program Distinctions

• The program is a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Total Worker Health® Affiliate, committed to education, practice, research, and strategic collaborations that will contribute to protecting and promoting worker well-being.
• The program offers experiential learning throughout the coursework culminating in a practicum or internship working with or in an organization.

The Student Experience

• In this 9-credit hour program, students will learn the history of workplace safety and health promotion, be introduced to the CDC Total Worker Health® framework, and learn strategies for conducting organizational assessments as well as designing, implementing, and evaluating workplace interventions. 
• As part of the course requirements, you will also complete practical experiences. The goal is for students to complete this P.B.C. with confidence to lead Total Worker Health initiatives in workplaces.
• Upon enrollment in the P.B.C. program, students will need to complete and submit a plan of study specific to the P.B.C. This plan of study should detail the sequence and completion of courses counting towards the P.B.C. and should be submitted to the graduate school at completion of credit hours when applying to graduate with the P.B.C. 
• Students have worked full or part time while completing the program, including during the practicum requirements. We work with each student and practicum site to make sure everyone gets a valuable experience that prepares them for their next career step.

After Graduation

Graduates of our P.B.C. work in universities, local governments, health systems, private companies, and workplace wellness consulting companies. Our students have partnered with local employers for practicum experiences or job opportunities, such as Cone Health, Atrium Health, Durham County, UNCG, NC State, MicroMass Communications, and the U.S. Army.

Apply to Program

• Formal applications to the UNCG Graduate School Applications are reviewed twice per year.
  • Application deadlines are December 1 and April 1.
• An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • GPA of 2.8 or higher in the undergraduate degree is required for P.B.C. admission
  • Must submit official transcripts for all undergraduate work
• Personal Statement of Purpose
• No test or GRE required.
• Note – Students entering as P.B.C.-only students are not eligible for financial aid. Only recognized University degree programs are considered for financial aid.
