Dear Campus Community,
We are pleased to announce that Eric S. Boyce will be UNC Greensboro’s next Chief of Police, succeeding Paul Lester who retired earlier this year. He begins on January 3, 2022.
Chief Boyce joins UNCG from UNC Asheville (UNCA), where he has served as Chief of Police for the past 11 years. In this role, Boyce oversaw and coordinated UNCA police operations, collaborated with the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management to reorganize the University’s Emergency Operations Plan, implemented the department’s first Computer Aided Dispatch system, increased departmental staffing, worked with students to create a new Residence Hall Officer program to provide residential students a liaison to the police department, and instituted several new crime prevention initiatives, including 360 Stay Safe on Campus, along with new alcohol and substance abuse awareness programs.
He previously held campus law enforcement leadership roles at the NC School of the Arts and Wake Forest University. A North Carolina native, Boyce earned a BA in Political Science/Public Administration from Winston-Salem State University, and a MS in Public Administration from Appalachian State University.
Our appreciation goes out to the search committee, our hardworking police department, and to Assistant Chief Chris Jasso, who has maintained a high level of safety and security for our campus community in the interim and will continue to do so until Chief Boyce arrives. We also recognize and thank SGA president and search committee member, Haz Mengesha, who provided invaluable insight during the hiring process.
We look forward to working with Chief Boyce and our stakeholders to improve campus safety efforts and initiatives; and communications with our students, faculty, staff, and the community. Our aspiration is to be a role model for law enforcement at institutions of higher education in our state and the nation.
