Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce Richard Campbell will be UNC Greensboro’s next Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications. He begins on December 1, 2021, subject to approval by the Board of Trustees.
Richard has more than 27 years of strategic communications experience. He currently serves as the Chief Communications Officer for NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). CALS is one of the most complex colleges in the UNC System, serving a wide variety of stakeholders. It is home to more than 1,600 faculty and staff that drive nearly $85 million in annual research expenditures, teach more than 3,900 undergraduate, graduate, and associate degree students, and provide vital NC State Extension programs in all 100 counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee.
At CALS, he has built and transformed the communications shop into a strategic digital marketing agency. He is a proven builder of high-functioning teams that can discern, develop and deliver effective marketing and communications strategies that engage target audiences and advance organizational priorities. Under his leadership, the CALS Communications team successfully redesigned the college’s website and magazine and launched content and social media strategies that elevated the college’s brand and increased stakeholder engagement.
Before joining CALS, he served as President of Carolina Broadcasting and Publishing, a strategic communications and public relations agency working exclusively with North Carolina associations and trade groups. He is a graduate of Elon University with a degree in broadcast communications.
Thank you to our interview committee, led by Vice Chancellor for ITS Donna Heath and our partners at Isaacson, Miller, who brought this national search to a successful conclusion. And I am grateful to both Kimberly Osborne and Eden Bloss, who have been leading the Communications team in the interim.
Throughout the interview process, I was impressed by Richard’s commitment to North Carolina, which he attributes to his mother and father, who consistently demonstrated the impact effective communications can have in informing, inspiring and building community. I am confident we found the right leader who can help share UNCG’s unique story and our role in the state for our various stakeholders.
Please join me in welcoming Richard to the Spartan family.
