HISTORY 221H: THE MEDIEVAL LEGACY

THE HONORS PROGRAM AND HISTORY 221

Be aware that this section of History 221 is designated as an Honors section.  Let me quote from a reminder sent to Honors instructors about the nature of such courses. "Typically honors courses emphasize more independent work, greater depth of study, and more advanced study than do regular courses. In Honors courses, students should be able to learn and cover elementary material rapidly. They should be more advanced in their learning skills than regular students, ready to accept greater intellectual challenges. Honors courses are more likely to entail more writing, research, and hands-on practical work than regular courses."  To this I will only add that my course will also require slightly more reading than the normal version.  So what sets History 221H apart from History 221?
 1. Slightly more reading than the regular course.
 2. An independent project to be completed by each student, either individually or in a small group.
 3. Expectation of more nuanced reading comprehension and more active oral participation in class..
