II. Electronic Mail Exercises: For jump-starting discussions, and extra-curricular chats, the German Internet-Cafe, other chatrooms, or e-mail partnerships and message groups or class listservs for internal mailings extend the classroom walls. The AATG listserv, FL Teach Listserv and its Web Bulletin Board provide ideas for using these media. Instructions: Students read course materials and post their comments electronically via e-mail, listserv, or message board. Submission deadlines apply.
III. Immersion Exercises: German courses on the web, literary journals, e-zines, media sites, and museums often provide excellent cyber study materials which offer multimedia immersions into literary, cultural, and historical topics. Consult the interactive workbook Netzspiegel, and the Goethe Instituts Internet Lernwelten. Excellent study materials can be found at Bonn's Lernforum Deutsch, and at Peter Gölz' site German for Beginners. Manfred Prokop's Zeitschrift für Fremdsprachenunterricht, his Jump Station to Resources in German, Margit Grieb's Classroom Resources, the AATG, and Inter Nationes offer most interesting online perspectives.
C. Online German Studies Resources
Listed here are some of the most useful German Studies resources on the World Wide Web. These literature, culture, and "Landeskunde" trails highlight the Internet as a virtual language laboratory for teaching research and study projects involving Germanistik and literary theory or Women in German. Students who wish to practice their elementary and intermediate language skills might find the children's pages useful, others can join German Chatrooms, and work through German Web Exercises on various levels of proficiency, or look for multimedia Teaching Tools and Software links. For hupermedia resources, visit the Multimedia Language Center, and the MIT list of Real Audio links to Central European Radio Stations and Georgia Tech's web demo projects for literature, culture, and communication.
D. Building German Studies Webs and Exercises.
Designing faculty pages, HTML fundamentals, web course designs, top class software, designing web exercises.
