This is a psychographic study of the philosopher that combines perspectives
drawn from his life, his philosophical writings, and his own autobiography,
with special attention to his one novel, The Last Puritan. Unusual
is the emphasis on the philosophy of Spinoza, which Santayana saw as the
foundation of his own thinking. A review
of A Philosophical Novelist appeared in the Sewanee
Review (Autumn, 1998).
