Dear WGS Faculty, Staff and Students,

Greetings at the beginning of an exciting new year. It's going to be a busy one. As the new interim director of the program, I want to welcome everybody back-- all our returning students and faculty and administrative staff. A special welcome to our new majors and graduate students and our new director of graduate studies Carisa Showden. Congratulations to Danielle Bouchard, our first tenured professor in WGS and Beth Walker, newly appointed as senior lecturer in the program.

Our faculty will soon be engaged in a program review that will take us through this semester and into the spring. It will help us assess where we've been and where we're going, and let us consider how we might do our work more effectively. We will select a new Linda Arnold Carlisle Excellence Professor of WGS this year and a new Director of the program.

We'll offer programs and events throughout the year as well, including a group of conversations that will bring together WGS faculty in informal discussions about their research and writing. Keep an eye on the website for information about upcoming activities that you can participate in.

This year promises to be a time of reflection and preparation for new action. I'm honored to be a part of it, and I look forward to working and learning from all of you.
