The Dept of Exercise & Sport Science at UNCG and the Reach For Health program at the Guilford Dept of Public Health have a long history of successful collaborations based on the representation that both groups have in the Heart & Stroke Health Partnership. These groups have collaborated on several funded grants that have combined research with community based programs related to the promotion of physical activity and healthy eating habits.
The ACHIEVE grant, funded by the Moses Cone Wesley Long Community Health Foundation, was designed to increase physical activity in Guilford County residents. This grant developed walking routes in downtown Greensboro.
In addition, the grant developed an on-line program that allows individuals to log and track their physical activity and calculate BMI. You can join the walking program at the Healthy Guilford website as well as learn more about special physical activity events in the community.
