Russian Studies


The Russian Studies program at UNCG offers a full range of courses in Russian language, literature and culture. The department prides itself on its spirit of congeniality and cooperativeness and on the demonstrated excellence of its faculty and programs.

Our diverse undergraduate program offers a concentration in Russian Studies at both the major and minor levels of the special program in liberal studies/international & global studies concentration. Courses range from introductory level instruction to advanced studies seminars. Students may choose from courses in literature, culture, Russian film, history, and Polish literature.

Major in SPLS/IGS with a concentration in Russian Studies. The major-level concentration in Russian studies involves 30 semester hours of course work to include:

Second Major in SPLS/IGS with a concentration in Russian Studies. Must meet the same requirements as the SPLS Major, with at least 12 hours taken outside the student's first major.

Minor in SPLS/IGS with a concentration in Russian Studies. Required to complete 18 hours including the foreign language requirement (6 hours), an intro core courses (IGS 200) (3 hrs), and 3 additional courses focusing on Russia or its former territories (9 hrs), with at least two courses (6 hrs) at the upper-level and representing at least two program categories.
